Sidney Crosby

I recently learned that superstar hockey guy Sidney Crosby is my fourth cousin.
My grandmother on my dad's side was Mary Bridget McCarron. She was born 9 April 1893. Her father, William E. McCarron had a smallish family of ten children. A good Irish Catholic family - God bless 'em. Mary's older brother, Gregory, himself had three children. His daughter, Katherine (Katie) McCarron, married Harry Forbes and, in turn, they had six children. One of them, a daughter, Trina Forbes married Troy Crosby ('Tracy' according to the geneology website). Subsequently, Sidney Crosby was born with a hockey stick in 1987. Sidney was the first overall pick in the 2005 NHL entry draft and has a way cooler website than mine.

Yup. I knew of Owen growing up as a kid and his fame with Spiderman and all. Never met him though.

The MacDonald's attended the big McCarron family reunion that was held in New Glasgow in the early 1990s. (I forget the exact year.) Were you there then?

I was at the Mc Carron reunion in New Glasgow as it is my hometown. My Grandfather was Leo McCarron who helped along with his brother Eddie manage the old Coffee Shop in New Glasgow. Hugh mc Carron managed the Mc Carron's Tea room as well. My father was the oldest of Leo's children. His name was Willian(Bill) Mc Carron who married Mary Macdonald of Westville

Ah, the McCarrons - nice to see the post from my cousin about my uncle Bill. My dad was the 2nd oldest boy. To see the the way my dad and uncles got along was something nothing less than joyous. There are just 2 of "the boys" left. Their lives have not been the same. Yes - there is history - my great-uncle Gregory led a very colorful life. My grandfather - also a horse of a different color - made me stand before him while he recited "The Cremation of Sam McGee" so I could collect a few pellets. His wife, my grandmother, was the funniest woman I ever met, despite the things that had befallen her. I miss my uncle Bill, my uncle Leo, and that ilk who lived with quiet and humorous humanity.

I was looking for information about Owen McCarron, the cartoonist. I came across this Blog. My name is Brenda Nielsen and I live in Calgary. My mother was Sadie McCarron, daughter of Jack and Alice McCarron. They raised their 14 children in Antigonish County. I would love to attend a McCarron reunion. Are you aware of any?

Hi I just came across this website and comments. enjoyed the McCarron Family tidbits. I'm Eric McCarron the 2nd son 4th child of Hugh and Mary (Craig) McCarron New Glasgow. Dad was the Hugh of the Tea Room and Coffee Pot where Uncle Eddie and Uncle Leo kept things humming. I have fond memories of spending a lot of time at the Tea Room in my youth. Many stories would fill up your website. The McCarron reunion was a great time I had one with my branch of the family last summer and we re did the Shamrock McCarron Reunion t shirts. John thanks for the info on Crosby, I had heard that story, but thought it was just more McCarron folklore. All the best everyone.
