The Beast in France
I was browsing photojournalist Mark M. Hancock's web links today. One link was to Reuters Photographers blogs. David Viggers filed a very interesting post on The Beast! A 1200-1700mm f5.6 IF-ED Nikon zoom converted to Canon. Needless to say, it's a very, very large lens.
P.S.
Also see Mark's flash "beast" from a couple of years ago: a Norman P2000D studio flash system (since replaced by the Norman D24R Series 900, a 2400WS with built-in Pocket Wizard Reciever). The thing can has some serious light output - as demonstrated by a photo in the blog post. Additionally, in some circles, the Nikkor 28-70mm f/2.8 lens is also known as "the beast". There are a lot of beasts in photography it seems.
Also of interest is the latest series of videos on sportshooter.com. They usually post something every 3 or 4 months and it is always worth waiting for. In this latest installment: Sports Illustrated's Peter Read Miller on assignment: Mexican Wrestling.
